Talk #582: A Rarest Gem from Bhagavaan Thiru Ramana Maharishi!! ЁЯМ║ЁЯЩПЁЯП╜

One of the very rarest gems ЁЯСМЁЯП╜ЁЯШН from #Bhagavaan Thiru #Ramana Maharshi:

If one goes on wanting, one’s wants cannot be fulfilled. Whereas if one remains desireless anything will be forthcoming. We are not in the wife, children, profession, etc.; but they are in us; they appear and disappear according to one’s prarabdha.

The mind remaining still is samadhi, no matter whether the world is perceived or not.

Environment, time and objects are all in me. How can they be independent of me? They may change, but I remain unchanging, always the same. The objects can be differentiated by means of their names and forms, whereas each one’s name is only one and that is ‘I’. Ask anyone, he says ‘I’ and speaks of himself as ‘I’, even if He is Isvara. His name too is ‘I’ only.

So also of a locality. As long as I am identified with the body so long a locality is distinguishable; otherwise not. Am I the body? Does the body announce itself as ‘I’?

Clearly all these are in me. All these wiped out entirely, the residual Peace is ‘I’. This is samadhi, this is ‘I’.

Thy Will, O Lord, Be Done!! ЁЯШБ

The following passage from "#Talks #with #Maharshi” was directly aimed at the #Sunday #Opera #Community ЁЯШБ:

#Talk #594

#Bhagavaan Thiru #Ramana Maharshi said: They pray to God and finish with “Thy Will be done!” If His Will be done why do they pray at all? It is true that the Divine Will prevails at all times and under all circumstances. The individuals cannot act of their own accord. Recognise the force of the Divine Will and keep quiet. Each one is looked after by God. He has created all. You are one among 2,000 millions. When He looks after so many will He omit you? Even common sense dictates that one should abide by His Will.

Again there is no need to let Him know your needs. He knows them Himself and will look after them.

Still more, why do you pray? Because you are helpless yourself and you want the Higher Power to help you. Well, does not your Creator and Protector know your weakness? Should you parade your weakness in order to make Him know it?

ЁЯСКЁЯП╜ЁЯСКЁЯП╜ЁЯСКЁЯП╜ЁЯСКЁЯП╜ЁЯСКЁЯП╜

Like the Chinese-made COVID-19, this praying syndrome has affected the entire H. sapiens species!!

Talk #196 (from #Talks #with #Maharishi)

Devotee: Seeking the ‘I’ there is nothing to be seen.

Maharishi: Because you are accustomed to identify yourself with the body and sight with the eyes, therefore, you say you do not see anything. What is there to be seen? Who is to see? How to see? There is only one consciousness which, manifesting as ‘I-thought’, identifies itself with the body, projects itself through the eyes and sees the objects around. The individual is limited in the waking state and expects to see something different. The evidence of his senses will be the seal of authority. But he will not admit that the seer, the seen and the sight are all manifestations of the same consciousness - namely, ‘I-I’. Contemplation helps one to overcome the illusion that the Self must be visual. In truth, there is nothing visual. How do you feel the ‘I’ now? Do you hold a mirror before you to know your own being? The awareness is the ‘I’. Realise it and that is the truth.

D.: On enquiry into the origin of thoughts there is a perception of ‘I’. But it does not satisfy me.

M.: Quite right. The perception of ‘I’ is associated with a form, maybe the body. There should be nothing associated with the pure Self. The Self is the unassociated, pure Reality, in whose light, the body, the ego, etc. shine. On stilling all thoughts the pure consciousness remains over.

Just on waking from sleep and before becoming aware of the world there is that pure ‘I-I’. Hold to it without sleeping or without allowing thoughts to possess you. If that is held firm it does not matter even though the world is seen. The seer remains unaffected by the phenomena.

Favourite Stories of Bhagavaan Shree Ramana Maharshi: King Janakar and Sage Sukar

[Once a questioner asked Bhagavaan, “Can the atyasramis (those beyond all states) own property?” Bhagavaan replied, “There is no restriction for them. They may do what they please. Sukar is said to have married and begotten children.” — #Talk #291, #Talks #with #Maharshi]

Sukar was the only son of #Vyaasar, author of the Brahma Sutras and the Puranaas and master of the Vedas. From his childhood, Sukar had understood through pure intellect and by freedom from distractions that the world is full of delusion. His mind was disturbed when he tried to probe into the source of delusion. He went to his father on Mt. Meru and voiced his doubts. Vyaasar, the very incarnation of Lord Vishnu, addressed Sukar’s misgivings but his son was not satisfied. Understanding his son’s mental state, Vyaasar told him, “Dear son! If you still harbour doubts, go to the king of Videhaa, King Janakar. May you benefit from all that is virtuous!”

Sukar reached the kingdom of Janakar with considerable effort and waited near the king’s private chambers. The servants announced his arrival to the king. Janakar wanted to test the determination of Sukar and thus, the servants did not give him admittance for seven long days. But Sukar maintained his equanimity. Seven days later, the king’s retinue allowed him to have an audience with the king with all the royal courtesies. Beautiful men and women attempted to entertain him with song and dance. Sukar was neither elated by this royal treatment nor was he flustered by the king’s earlier indifference. Janakar was very pleased with Sukar’s immaculate attitude. He offered him the sixteen kinds of hospitality, praised his ancestry and humbly addressed him thus, “It is my great good fortune that you, who are endowed with the knowledge of Brahman, came all the way here, seeking audience with me. Please command me as to what service I can render you”.

Sukar reiterated all that he had told his father and raised the question that was tormenting him, “What is the origin of delusion? How does one overcome it?” Janakar’s response was the same as had been his father’s. So, Sukar explained that he had heard this response before, and it had not resolved his doubts. Janakar then elaborated further, “You are fully detached from all things, are without doubt the very embodiment of Brahman. What your father stated, what I have understood and what you are contemplating, are all the same— the knowledge of the Self. Total detachment is essential for this. You are seeking the source of delusion. And, it has brought you all this way. This very desire is the manifestation of delusion. Attempting to know anything other than the Self is delusion. Such a desire also occurs by the very force of the Self — attempting to know and knowing it. However, in the attempt to quench one’s desire to know, the Self gets lost in the background and one is caught in a vicious whirlpool. Therefore, conquer this desire to know more about delusion and endeavour to attain the state of equanimity once again, for that is your true state.

On hearing this explanation, Sukar became completely silent, was emancipated from all desire and filled with perfect contentment. He now understood the greatness of his father through the renowned Janakar.

Talk #121: Talks between Bhagavaan Shree Ramana Maharshi and two Moslems

Devotee: Has God a form?

Maharshi: Who says so?

D.: Well, if God has no form is it proper to worship idols?

M.: Leave God alone because He is unknown. What about you? Have you a form?

D.: Yes. I am this and so and so.

M.: So then, you are a man with limbs, about three and a half cubits high, with beard, etc. Is it so?

D.: Certainly.

M.: Then do you find yourself so in deep sleep?

D.: After waking I perceive that I was asleep. Therefore by inference I remained thus in deep sleep also.

M.: If you are the body why do they bury the corpse after death? The body must refuse to be buried.

D.: No, I am the subtle jiva within the gross body.

M.: So you see that you are really formless; but you are at present identifying yourself with the body. So long as you are formful why should you not worship the formless God as being formful?

The questioner was baffled and perplexed.

😁😁😁

Likewise throughout "Talks..." you can find numerous occasions where people came to examine Bhagavaan or to prove their -ism was better than Advaitham (Bhagavaan never identified Himself with any religion or group. His teachings were completely based on His experience and not based on any scriptures). Sometimes Bhagavaan brought such people to the right path. Sometimes He would say what they wanted to hear and got rid of them. Sometimes He kept quiet. Sometimes He paid them back in their own coin. When He did pay them back, it was always in a spectacular way!! With just one simple question, He would bring down their entire defensive structures.

Talk 92: Part of #Bhagavaan #Shree #Ramana #Maharshi's reply to a question asked by a visitor

Unbroken ‘I-I’ is the ocean infinite, the ego, ‘I’ thought, remains only a bubble on it and is called jiva, i.e., individual soul. The bubble too is water; when it bursts it only mixes in the ocean. When it remains a bubble it is still a part of the ocean. Ignorant of this simple truth, innumerable methods under different denominations, such as yoga, bhakti, karma....... each again with many modifications, are being taught with great skill and in intricate detail only to entice the seekers and confuse their minds. So also are the religions and sects and dogmas. What are they all for? Only for knowing the Self. They are aids and practices required for knowing the Self.

Objects perceived by the senses are spoken of as immediate knowledge (pratyaksha). Can anything be as direct as the Self - always experienced without the aid of the senses? Sense perceptions can only be indirect knowledge, and not direct knowledge. Only one’s own awareness is direct knowledge, as is the common experience of one and all. *No aids are needed to know one’s own Self, i.e., to be aware.*

The one Infinite Unbroken Whole (plenum) becomes aware of itself as ‘I’. This is its original name. All other names, e.g., OM, are later growths. *Liberation is only to remain aware of the Self.* The mahavakya “I am Brahman” is its authority. Though the ‘I’ is always experienced, yet one’s attention has to be drawn to it. Only then does knowledge dawn. Thus the need for the instruction of the Upanishads and of wise sages.

Why Praanayaamam + Meditation are necessary from the Medical Science's point of view?

From the time of the  birth till death the heart works continuously.

*Everyday the heart pumps 7,000 litres of blood, of which 70% blood is pumped to the brain and the remaining 30%  to the rest of body.*

How does the heart work so much efficiently and effectively?

Heart works effectively because it follows a discipline. In normal conditions the heart takes 0.3 secs to contract (systole) and 0.5 secs to relax (diastole). So 0.3+0.5=0.8 secs are required by the heart to complete one beat (1 cardiac cycle). That means *in 1 min, the heart beats 72 times which is considered as normal heart beat.*

During the relaxing phase of 0.5 secs the impure blood travels through the lungs and becomes 100 % pure.

In some stressful conditions , the body demands more blood in less time and in this situation the heart reduces the relaxing period of 0.5 secs to 0.4 secs. Thus in this case the heart beats 82 times in 1min and only 80% of blood gets purified.

On more and more demand the relaxing time is further reduced to 0.3 secs & then only 60% of blood is purified.

*Imagine the consequences of the lesser Oxygenated blood circulating in our Arteries!*

Deep Breathing , my friends , is the key to ensure better Oxygenation of the blood.

*Factors responsible for the activity of the brain:*

1.  25-30% is due to the Diet we consume.

2. 70-75% is due to the emotions, attitude, memories and other processes of the brain.

*Thus, to calm the brain and reduce the demand on the heart to pump more and more blood , brain needs to be given rest. Meditation is the most useful tool to calm an agitated mind.*

When we sit in meditation (#), the brain gets calmer, heart gets rested,  thus insulating us from the Dis-eases of Heart & Brain.

*PRAANAYAAMAM + MEDITATION ARE THE KEYS TO THE REAL HEALING.*

15 minutes per day is all it takes to practise these. Is it too much ?

(Source: Whatsapp)

🌳🌸🏵🌹🌻🌺🌷🌼🌴

# - What is Meditation? It's not concentrating on the brow point as most people believe! In #Bhagavaan Shree #Ramana #Maharshi's words...

"Meditation is your true nature. You call itmeditation now, because there are other thoughtsdistracting you. When these thoughts are dispelled, you remain alone — that is, in the state of meditation free from thoughts; and that is yourreal nature, which you are now trying to gain bykeeping away other thoughts. Such keeping awayof other thoughts is now called meditation. Butwhen the practice becomes firm, the real natureshows itself as true meditation."

Talk #46 from "#Talks #with #Maharshi"

... #Bhagavaan said that *the mind is only identity of the Self with the body.* It is a false ego that is created; it creates false phenomena in its turn, and appears to move in them; all these are false. *The Self is the only Reality.* If the false identity vanishes the persistence of the Reality becomes apparent. It does not mean that Reality is not here and now. It is always there and eternally the same. It is also in everyone’s experience. For everyone knows that he is. “Who is he?”. Subjectively, “Who am I?” The false ego is associated with objects; this ego itself is its own object. *Objectivity is the falsity. Subject is alone the Reality.* Do not confound yourself with the object, namely the body. This gives rise to the false ego, consequently of the world and your movements therein with the resulting misery. *Do not think yourself to be this, that or anything; to be so and so, or to be such and such. Only leave off the falsity. The Reality will reveal itself.* The scriptures say that the *Self is nityasiddha, ever present,* and yet speak of the removal of ajnana. If Self is (nitya) always and (siddha) present, how can there be ajnana? For whom is the ajnana? These are contradictory. But such statements are for guiding the earnest seeker in the right way. He does not readily understand the only Truth if mentioned in plain words as in "natwam naham neme janadhipah" (not thou, nor I, nor these kings ...). Sri Krishna declared the Truth, but Arjuna could not grasp it. Later Krishna plainly says that people confound Him with the body, whereas in reality He was not born nor will He die. Still Arjuna requires the whole Gita for the Truth to be made clear to him.

Look, *the Self is only Be-ing, not being this or that. It is simple Being. Be - and there is an end of the ignorance.* Enquire for whom is the ignorance. The ego arises when you wake up from sleep. *In deep sleep you do not say that you are sleeping and that you are going to wake up or that you have been sleeping so long. But still you are there.* Only when you are awake you say that you have slept. Your wakefulness comprises sleep also in it. Realise your pure Be-ing. Let there be no confusion with the body. *The body is the result of thoughts. The thoughts will play as usual, but you will not be affected. You were not concerned with the body when asleep; so you can always remain.*

Mr. Ekanatha Rao: How can anyone reconcile such activity with the wage-earning which is a necessity for worldly people?

B.: *Actions form no bondage. Bondage is only the false notion, “I am the doer.”* Leave off such thoughts and let the body and senses play their role, unimpeded by your interference.

🔥 Om Namo Bhagavathe Shree Arunaachala Ramanaaya 🔥

ЁЯМ╝ *Few gems from #Yoga #Vasishta #Saaram (#)* ЁЯМ╝

🔥 The knowledge of the Self is the fire that burns up the dry grass of desire. This indeed is what is called samadhi, not mere abstention from speech.

🔥 The mind is the creator of the world, the mind is the individual (purusha); only that which is done by the mind is regarded as done, not that which is done by the body. The arm with which one embraces the wife is the very arm with which one embraces the daughter.

🔥 To be unperturbed is the foundation of
blessedness (Sri).

What is Meditation?

A young boy of 7 years old came to #Bhagavaan Shree #Ramana #Maharishi and asked him, "Can you explain to me what is meditation? Whenever I ask my parents they tell me I need not bother about it now and I will come to know when I grow up." Bhagavaan said, "I shall tell you,; but you sit quietly by my side." (How gifted that boy would have been? 😍)

A little later someone brought a carrier full of Dosais and placed it before Bhagavaan, who would not eat anything unless equal quantities are distributed to everyone present. Bhagavaan took a small piece Himself, gave one full Dosai to the boy by his side in a leaf and ordered the rest to be distributed to the devotees present.

He told the boy, "Look here, till I raise my finger and say 'Hoon' you will go on eating and you should not finish it before I give the signal. The moment I give the signal no portion of the Dosai should remain and you should stop eating." The boy was looking at Bhagavaan for the signal and was eating in big pieces first and later in small bits. Suddenly the expected signal came. The boy put the entire balance Dosai into his mouth and stopped eating. *Bhagavaan then said, "What you now did is the process of meditation. You were looking at Me all the time but were eating the Dosai. Similarly keep your mind one pointed on God; but continue with your normal duties."* 👏👌👍

*Let your normal activities like walking, eating, talking, etc., go on; but let your mind be concentrated on God all the time. That is #Meditation. Here God is not just some external force. He is right within us. And, He is Us!!*

ЁЯМ╝ T.R.Kanakammal ЁЯМ╝

A blessed soul was absorbed in the Master in the same manner she had lived her eighty-eight years: totally surrendered and prostrate at His feet!!

T.R.Kanakammal was perhaps the last living devotee who left all worldly attractions behind to reside in the holy presence of Sri Bhagavan before his mahasamadhi in 1950. She first remembered seeing His beatific smile on a visit to him when she was eight. From that time onwards she was completely captured in the net of His grace. At the age of 13 she declared to her parents that she would never have any interest in family life and pleaded with them not to get her married. Her pleading failed and she was married the same year, but before the event she extracted a promise from her father that if at the time she came of age and was expected to join her husband, he would not force her to do so if she wished otherwise. And she had the same vairagya a few years later when the time arrived.

Her parents were very pious people and eventually allowed her to go and live by the side of Sri Ramanasramam in the year 1946 when she was in her early 20s. Since then Tiruvannamalai has been her residence and Bhagavan Ramana her sole anchor and support.

ЁЯТо On Jayanti morning, January 1, 2010, Kanakammal circumambulated the Thaayummaanavar (Matrubhuteswara) Shrine and then entered Bhagavan's Samadhi Hall. Walking around the Samadhi she stopped on the north side to gaze at the Lingam of the Maharshi, while it was washed in preparation for the grand puja that was about to take place, commemorating the 130th birth anniversary of Sri Ramana. Right at that place she collapsed and was absorbed into her Master and Lord. How fitting an end for one who knew no other in her long life than Bhagavan Sri Ramana!! ЁЯТо

Kanakammal was an inestimable source of inspiration to the legions of devotees who sought her presence. She left us her reminiscences (Cherished Memories, in English) and several other books which shed light on the teachings of Bhagavan.

What follows is a transcribed reminiscence from a videotaped interview taken in 1999:

How to Speak ?

I would sit silently before Bhagavan. I was unable to ask him questions but I would listen attentively whenever he answered others. questions. After all, even if I asked him, the replies would be the same. Occasionally, when I felt like putting a question to Bhagavan, something within me would ask, "Would Bhagavan know about your doubt only if you asked him? Is he not within you also? Is it necessary to put your doubts in words?" Such thoughts would prevent me from speaking out. But again, I would observe devotees like Devaraja Mudaliar, G. V. Subbaramayya, Sambasiva Rao and others conversing freely with Bhagavan and wonder: "These people are so free with Bhagavan, then why not me too?"

In those days, Bhagavan was sitting in the Jubilee Hall. I would enter from the Old Hall and Bhagavan would be able to see me only after I turned into the Jubilee Hall. A wall would obstruct his view until then. In the Old Hall, I would muster courage and resolve that I would definitely speak to Bhagavan on that day, but the moment I turned into the Jubilee Hall, all my courage would evaporate. I would almost feel something tangibly dropping away from me, as if something were being emptied out. My walk would slow down considerably. Beyond a point, I would practically have to drag myself towards Bhagavan. To compound matters, on some such days Bhagavan would look directly at me. I could not bear it when Bhagavan looked directly at me. The intensity of his gaze would push me inwards. In such situations, I would just prostrate and sit down quietly, not even bothering to go up front near him. Bhagavan's look would push me inside and I would sit quietly there for the whole day. This is what would happen to me again and again in His presence.

Eager to talk to Bhagavan I sought the help of Anandammal, who often sat next to me. "I want to talk to Bhagavan," I told her, "but I am unable to bring myself to do so. However, despite the absence of words, I still get the peace and satisfaction that I would if I talked to him. What should I do?" Anandammal smiled and remained silent.

The next day I wanted to go for a pradakshina around Arunachala. As I could not go alone, Anandammal would accompany me. When I went to take Bhagavan's permission at about 5 a.m., no one else was present. I thought that this would be my best opportunity to speak to Bhagavan. As I prostrated before him, I thought, 'What do I ask him?' On such occasions I would think, 'What do you know? What will you ask this divine being at whose very sight you become tongue-tied?' All my questions would then remain bottled-up inside me. On that day, somehow mustering courage, I managed to speak out, "Bhagavan! I am going for pradakshina." I did not know what else to say. Bhagavan, who was reclining on the sofa came forward towards me and said, "Uh! What?" I then realized that although I requested permission to go for pradakshina, no sound had come from my mouth. ЁЯШВ Only my lips had moved. Again, I tried telling Bhagavan, with the same result. Bhagavan then said, "Oho! So you are going for the pradakshina? Who is accompanying you?" Anandammal, who had come to the hall by then and was standing beside me said, "Bhagavan, I am going." Bhagavan said "Very good! Very good!" and gave a beatific smile. Thus, despite several opportunities to do so, I was never able to speak to Bhagavan. So how could I ask him anything? And what was I to ask? Some people told me to ask him whatever doubts came to me in my sadhana, but then it would occur to me that if we do sadhana the way Bhagavan asked us to, then there is absolutely no room for doubt. Such doubts are only on account of our own mistakes in not following Bhagavan. Thus, I never asked Bhagavan any questions.

Word group "I Am That I Am" is also inadequate to describe God

A text is doing rounds in WhatsApp. I have attached it after my response. Vested criminals are misguiding/cheating the public using it! ЁЯШа

ЁЯМ╕ЁЯМ╣ЁЯНАЁЯНБЁЯМ║ЁЯМ╗ЁЯМ╝

This reply was given by Bhagavaan Sri Ramana Maharshi to a Parangi according to his mindset. Bhagavaan didn't intend it for general public.

Likewise, He praised about Islam to a group of Muslims. So, can we all utter the "sacred" word 3 times, divorce our wives and go for 10 years old girl children? ЁЯШВ

He also recommended doing Jabam to a Brahmin woman. So, can we all do Jabam, lose energy and go bonkers? ЁЯШВ

If you want to know what He really said, read

ЁЯТо роиாрой் ропாро░்? (Who Am I?)
ЁЯТо роЙро│்ро│родு роиாро▒்рокродு (Reality in Forty Verses - commentary by Sri Saadhu Om)
ЁЯТо роЙрокродேроЪ роЙрои்родிропாро░் (Upadesa Undhiyaar - commentary by Sri Saadhu Om).

Don't get fooled by these cheats!!

If Bhagavaan's words mean a lot to them, let them follow His words first. Bhagavaan didn't recommend or approve religious conversions. Will they stop their conversion business?

Several years ago they used Swaami Vivekaanandha's words to sell their -ism. Once Sri Raamakrishna Mission fired a salvo, these cheats went silent. Now, they are using Bhagavaan's words. I don't expect any salvo this time as there is still too much Parangi infestation at Sri Ramanaashramam.

"I am that I am" is one of the phrases to describe The God/Brahmam/рокро░роо்рокொро░ுро│். It also falls short like all the words & phrases including Bhagavaan's own "роиாрой்" & "родாрой்". God is beyond thoughts & words. Naming or explaining something that is beyond words will always result in error. Pl remember the following beautiful lines from Thamizh:

роХрог்роЯро╡ро░் ро╡ிрог்роЯிро▓ро░்
ро╡ிрог்роЯро╡ро░் роХрог்роЯிро▓ро░்

Those who realized won't talk
Those who talk are not realized

Bhagavaan was a роХрог்роЯро╡ро░். He used several words, phrases, etc. to guide us to The Almighty/Arunaachalaa/роЙро│்ро│ рокொро░ுро│். That's the best a real Guru can do.

From: ~~~ Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, Talk 106.

Q.:
How shall I realise God?

M.:
God is an unknown entity.

Moreover He is external.

Whereas,
the Self is always with you
and it is you.

Why do you leave out what is intimate
and go in for what is external?

Q.:
What is this Self again?

M.:
The Self is known to everyone
but not clearly.

You always exist.

The Be-ing is the Self.

‘I am’ is the name of God.

Of all the definitions of God,
none is indeed so well put
as the Biblical statement

“I AM THAT I AM”

in EXODUS (Chap. 3).

There are other statements,
such as
Brahmaivaham,
Aham Brahmasmi
and Soham.

But none is so direct as the name
JEHOVAH = I AM.

The Absolute Being is what is -
It is the Self.
It is God.

Knowing the Self,
God is known.

In fact God is none other
than the Self.
