After the recent #Ayodhiyaa verdict, a person I know quipped that Hindhus should hand over their temples to Buddhists & Jains as he was under the impression that Hindhus built their temples upon the ruins of #Buddhist & #Jain temples. The following text was my reply to him:
There are 2 kinds of #Temples: alive & lifeless. Our #Annaamalaiyaar temple is a live temple. It's the samaadhi temple of Idaikkaattu Siddhar. Most of the ancient temples are such temples. In fact, before Buddishm & Jainism, only such places were called temples. Practice of constructing lifeless temples started with Buddhists & Jains. After the fall of these 2 religions, Hindhuism took over this practice because of growing population & unemployment (commercial reasons).
Worship, Temples, ... did not start with #Buddishm & #Jainism. Famous #Thirumalai temple is an example. Right now, it's maintained by Vaishnavites (a section of erstwhile Buddhists). Before that, it was maintained by Vedic Priests. Before that, Jains. Before everyone else, Saivites (Aadhi Saivam).
The famous practice of #Sallekhana of Jains (death by fasting) comes from Thamizhs. Research about the Thamizh word #Vadakkiruththal (#வடக்கிருத்தல்). It predates Jainism. Aadhi Saivam was the original religion of this land. Everything else comes from it.
In TN, Buddhists weren't as successful as their Jain siblings because of wrong marketing strategy. Thamizhs loved their language very much. Jains marketed their -ism in Thamizh and Buddhists in Sanskrit. After gaining control of TN, Jains started their atrocities (like the Buddhists did & doing in Sri Lanka) - converting Hindhu temples, etc., The famous #Mulaiyur incident from the life of Appar Swaamigal (one of the 4 major Saiva Naayanmaargal) is a proof. Jains took over the Siva temple in Mulaiyur, covered the Lingam with cloths, placed their deity in front of the Lingam. Appar & His disciples protested by fasting in front of the temple and made the ruler (probably a Chozhan ruling under Pallavan) remove the Jains and their deity.
Buddhists & Jains are welcome to take back all their lifeless temples. If it's a live temple and if they can prove that the Lord residing there in samadhi is one of their monks/followers, they are welcome to take over. Our ancient temples are enough to guide us. In fact, a person with correct knowledge of Thamizh does not require any temple or any other guidance. His language will show him the way. In Thamizh, both a person's place of living and 4th Purushaarthaa is called #Veedu (#வீடு). If he understands it's etymology, nothing else and no one else is required to realize his true Self!! 💪🏽

This reply not only made him quiet. It made him accept his ignorance of our past. Like him, because of Communist & Periyaarist influenced education, movies & other media (funded by anti-Hindhu, anti-social & anti-national elements), most of us have wrong or little knowledge about our past resulting in very low respect for our glorious history, culture and knowledge. 😔
